Dark Chocolate, Avocado and Chia Brownies

OK, I'm going to admit something that you're not supposed to admit.

I don't like clean eating. I think rye bread is disgusting, chia seeds are pointless and anyone that buys a Nutri-Bullet is an idiot. (They're just blenders. Really. Overpriced blenders.)

I think women have enough to deal with without feeling guilty for eating a burger every now and then.

But I do like avocados. With eggs, with salmon, for breakfast or a midnight feast; there is literally no  bad time to crack open an avocado. 

And, needless to say, I like chocolate. A lot. 

So, when I came across a recipe that involves both of those ingredients, that's 'clean' as well as tasty, I thought I'd better give it a go. Here's the recipe for some delicious, not-too-naughty chocolate brownies. 


  • Four eggs
  • 250g dark chocolate (although I just used 100g)
  • One cup of sugar
  • Half a cup of cocoa powder 
  • Two ripe avocados
  • Half a cup of almond meal (nope, I didn't know what that was either. I just used flour, but apparently its a ground up almond flour substitute. Good luck finding that in Suffok.)
  • Chia seeds

Start by melting the choccie in a bowl on top of a pan of boiling water. You can try doing it in the microwave if you're lazy, but it's a pretty fine art and I can almost guarantee that you'll burn it.

Then whisk together the eggs and sugar until they're light and fluffy.

When the chocolate is done, add it into the mixture bit by bit and keep whisking. Add the cocoa powder too. Once that's done, mash up the avocados until they look like fluffy mashed potato, and add it into the mix. Whisk again, because there will be some green lumps, and it doesn't look that nice.

Add a few spoons of chia seeds on top. I think these are just for show - they're meant to be a superfood, but they're a bit strange and jelly-like and much better when hidden inside baked goods than eaten on their own. 

Grease a small, shallow baking tin and then put the mixture in and bake at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes. As usual, you should be able to stick a knife in and it come out clean, not all gunky - then it's ready. 

I then sprayed it with some edible silver spray - because glitter makes everything better.

(Unless you get sent it in the mail. Apparently, that does not make anything better.)
